.Since
the group's formation in the late 1990s, Calasaig
have secured an admirable reputation in the world of traditional music
through their numerous performances and quality recordings. Their albums,
Until Then, Making
For The Shore and Near & Far have
brought the band critical acclaim and have ensured their continued inclusion
in the top ten of several traditional music album charts in Europe and
the US, as well as on radio play lists around the world. The band have
a 54 minute video/dvd available produced by Lazy
Mist Records in conjunction with Rosebank
Productions entitled Beginnings. Their
4th album, Merchants' City, was recorded
in Phase One studios in Toronto and at The
Foundry in Glasgow. It was released in N. America on the REL
Records Inc in August 2003 and was released in the UK and Europe
by Lazy Mist Records Ltd In February 2004.
Merchants' City was receiving requests from
BBC radio stations in advance of it's release.
The band have recorded in some of the finest and best known recording
facilities in the world including Phase One Studios,
Toronto and Sun Studios in Memphis Tennessee.
Calasaig have appeared at Celtic Connections
Festival
in Glasgow (The worlds' foremost winter music festival) several
times and their busy touring schedule has included other major world festivals
- Ottawa Folk Festival in Ontario,
Festival Des Arts De St Sauveur in Quebec, Britain
On Don Festival in Rostov-On-Don in Russia,
Skagen Festival in Denmark and Clanjamfry
in Memphis in the USA - as well as concerts in the UK, Turkey, Russia,
Canada, Holland, Belgium, Denmark and The United States. The band have
also played at several high profile venues including Glasgow
Royal Concert Hall, The Central House Of
The Artists in Moscow (Russia), Stirling
Castle, The EICC in Edinburgh and
The SECC in Glasgow and they made musical
history when they were the first artists to perform in Drumkinnon
Tower in the new Loch Lomond Shores
complex. The group have appeared and performed on television in the UK,
France, Russia, Canada and The USA several times including a televised
concert in Gorky Park, Russia. Calasaig have played support to some of
the biggest names in Celtic Music - Shane McGowan
(The Pogues) and Donnie
Munro (Runrig) and they have also
appeared on stage with Donovan and The
Dubliners. Dates in 2004 included tours and festivals in Holland,
Denmark, Belgium, The USA and Canada.
