John is Calasaig's backroom support. One of the best sound engineers working in Britain and known for his sympathetic use of sound for traditional music.

He has toured the world with some of the best known bands in traditional music (Four Men & A Dog - for six years) - Ossian, Ceolbeg, Maggie McInnes Band, Deaf Shepherd, Old Blind Dogs, The John Wright Band, Brian McNeil and Dick Gaughan plus numerous folk festivals and BBC outside broadcasts, and his company Sound Sense are renowned for providing high quality sound for folk festivals. Working at diverse locations throughout the world, you never know when (or where) he will pop up!

Not so well known is the fact that he is an accomplished guitar and 5-string banjo player, and only gave up playing professionally when the demands of providing sound became too great to continue playing. He also has another company Sound Sense Recording Services which he runs with Kris Koren which provides 24 track digitql mobile recording for live performances or on location.
